Hey #believeinfilm friends,

Polaroid launched a new camera yesterday. It's called Flip, and it uses classic tech to take better photos:

I'm very curious about why they chose sonar for autofocus here (despite using lidar on I-2). But I'm not surprised they're using a 4-step autofocus just like in the original 600-series, this tech is brilliant!

This camera will be $200. Would you get it?

Hey #believeinfilm friends,

Today, I review what may be the best 35mm film scanner money can buy:

Nikon SUPER COOLSCAN 5000 ED

It's compact, fast, renders impeccable colour, and has excellent batch-scanning capabilities.

It's over twenty years old and yet better than all modern solutions I have come across. (I compared it to a brand new dedicated film scanner, Sony a7iii scans, and a professional lab.)

These two frames from my bulk loaded Kentmere 400 test roll are hot messes with light leaks and weird spots. These were not consecutive frames and rest of the frames from a short roll were mostly fine. I shot the roll at 1600. While I'll try to diagnose and improve the loading and developing process, I will say that I am somewhat charmed by the happy accidents in these frames.
