Hi #academicmastodon! I’m new to the platform and thought I’d start off by sharing something random and nerdy about myself: I think it is fun to start papers with epigraphs. My recent research on #immigration attitudes in the U.S. begins with the Faulkner quote, “The past is never dead. It’s not even past.” https://doi.org/10.1093/esr/jcab038.
I think it is even more fun to have warring epigraphs! The last installment of a recent methods debate (https://doi.org/10.1111/nana.12791 ) begins with a Baudrillard quote from “Simulacra and Simulations” that refers to the Borges' fable that was the epigraph to the response (https://doi.org/10.1111/nana.12756) to our comment (https://doi.org/10.1111/nana.12722). Who said academics don’t know how to have fun?
Thanks to @bartbonikowski for getting the ball rolling
@MaureenEger I love this!
@MaureenEger I didn‘t know that.
@LarsAlberth I am pretty sure I began my dissertation with four. It is harder to pull off in journal articles, but I like challenges.
@MaureenEger Of course you do!
@MaureenEger I am also pretty sure I used a quote of Italo Calvino from his Invisible Cities for my PhD thesis.
@MaureenEger Really cool paper!
@omarlizardo Thank you!
@mariaaabreu Thank you!
