From our magazine: Since 1980, the U.S. federal courts have overseen a secretive system that allows judges to investigate and sanction their own peers under a law called the Judicial Conduct and Disability Act. Nationwide, only a handful of these complaints are ever investigated. texasobserver.org/disorder-in- \

The Texas Observer · Rules of the RobeA sharp-eyed retiree uncovered evidence of judicial misconduct by the chief judge of Houston’s busy bankruptcy court. The unusual story highlights how other complaints against judges go ignored.
I had to go to Walgreens Pharmacy a few months ago (exciting!), so I did my evening walk at the nearby Southeast Park in Amarillo, TX. Not really a Mecca for photographers, so I didn't bring along my "serious" gear. I do always keep my "point-and-shoot" compact zoom camera (Panasonic LUMIX DC-ZS200) in my car just in case, and I wound up doing a handheld long-ish exposure (like a crazy person) with this wintry cypress tree in the lake. I'd call it a victory for my little point-and-shoot...and I'd say I can hold pretty steady! #tree #cypress #lake #water #sunset #longexposure #Texas #nature #landscape #clouds #sky

"From both a partisan perspective and a racial perspective, many of those are majority non-white districts—with the exception of Lloyd Doggett’s district in #Austin. So you’re talking about targeting the political power of communities of color in a pretty aggressive way." texasobserver.org/redistrictin

The Texas Observer · The Texas GOP’s ‘Unprecedented,’ Risky Gerrymandering SchemeA redistricting expert discusses Tom Delay, ‘dummymanders,’ and the long history of racial gerrymandering in the state.

Out today from Lise Olsen: “My hope is there’s going to be some more action from the chief [district] judge, the circuit judge, maybe even the judicial council—and guidelines to judges about what their responsibilities are.”

But right now, there seem to be few consequences for judicial corruption and conflict of interest. texasobserver.org/disorder-in-
