We have started to watch Season 1 of 'Somebody Somewhere' (Neon), a delightful, thoughtful comedy-drama about a 40-something woman getting her life together in a small Kansas city after the death of her beloved sister. It's a nuanced, tender story told with wit and charm that doesn't shy away from life's difficulties and relationships. The lead, Bridget Everett, is sensational. I loved it from the get-go. Superb TV. Only seven half-hour episodes a season.

What I love about #SomebodySomewhere is how it’s storytelling is based in how the small and quiet parts of life are full of depth and meaning.
I would never have started the show based on the title card, it was recommended by another comics-storyteller friend whose own work I adore.
This value of small and everyday moments is something I like to encourage in my teaching. Storytelling, especially memoir, doesn’t have to be loud or hyperbolically dramatic to have emotional depth and conflict (if conflict is even part of your storytelling—which I don’t personally believe is necessary). Slow growth, the molasses of inner learning and growth, can be rich in flavor and nutrients
