I'm secretly proud that he already beats me at chess, gets better grades & plays music better than me at his age... but the day my son outfoxes me in problem solving like this is the day my job is done.
(Although I'll still wrestle him to the ground like in this video! 😂)

Mendelsohn's memoir finds uncanny and revealing parallels between a father auditing his son's class on Homer and the epic's father-son relationships.

Interesting findings from my survey on #ParentalLeave for #fathers :
Among fathers who took parental leave, the distribution of religiosity level (secular, traditionalist, orthodox, ultra-orthodox) matches almost exactly the distribution in the population.
Same for intra-Jewish ethnicity (except for a slightly lower rate of Ethiopian-Israelis).

VERY interesting and quite anti-intuitive

Mothers and fathers in Gaza are comforting and holding children that they did not give birth to and who are not direct members of their family. Many of them have lost children themselves. Free Palestine. End the occupation.

Father & Son

A Photo Series by Valery Poshtarov

"I initially set out to photograph my 95-year-old grandfather and my father holding hands. The project soon evolved into something much larger than I had anticipated... While walking around Bulgaria’s capital Sofia, where I live, I stopped to photograph a house that caught my eye and a woman came out pushing a man in a wheelchair. I assumed they were going to chase me away, but instead she showed me a framed picture of a young man, aged about 30. She said he was their only son and he had died eight months before. She asked if I would photograph her husband with the portrait ... It felt like a sign.

I did as asked and later took the portrait I’d planned – of my father and grandfather holding hands. My grandfather passed away shortly after. It’s the only image my father has of just the two of them ... That became the first in an ongoing series. So far, I have photographed fathers and sons holding hands in Bulgaria, Georgia, Turkey, Armenia and around the western Balkans."

As we celebrate Father's Day I want to share a beautiful aspect of the Hebrew language that millions of kids experience when they say one of their first words: /'a-ba/ אַבָּא

In Hebrew 'a-ba אַבָּא is the word for both father & dad or daddy. It's a term filled with warmth, love, & everyday connection. Hearing a child say /'a-ba/ אַבָּא for the first time is a moment of joy for families

But you might wonder, why do we also use the word /av/ אָב for father? /av/ אָב is the more formal and/or biblical form of the word father. It's a term that you will often find in religious texts, formal writings, and special occasions like wishing "Happy Father's Day"

So while /av/ אָב carries a sense of formality and tradition, /'a-ba/ אַבָּא is the everyday term that children call out to their fathers with joy & affection

As we honor fathers today let's celebrate both the traditional /av/ אָב and the loving, everyday /'a-ba/ אַבָּא that brings smiles to countless faces
