After enjoying her previous Small Arcs of Larger Circles I recently got her latest book Combining, and can already highly recommend getting that in print simply for being the most beautifully produced piece of art I have ever held in book form :flow:<br><a href="https://scicomm.xyz/tags/books" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>books</span></a> <a href="https://scicomm.xyz/tags/Bateson" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Bateson</span></a> <a href="https://scicomm.xyz/tags/Fleming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fleming</span></a></p>

Grant Jun Otsuki<p>I think the single most important person to read in order to be able to understand a _vast_ swathe of current cultural anthropology is Gregory <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Bateson" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Bateson</span></a>, and I wish he were read more than he is. I’ve dreamt about teaching a seminar that starts with cybernetics, goes through Bateson, and lands in a variety of theoretical standpoints. Structuralism, linguistic anth, anthropology of ethics (and a good chunk of work on religion, ritual), Actor-Network Theory, and a lot of “French” theory.</p>
