Colleagues sometimes state that it is important to hire faculty of group x, y, or z, to serve as role models for students of the same group. It never feels like the right time to say it, but I believe that this reasoning is too narrow. We all benefit from role model #diversity. #academia
@economistatwork seems to me the two perspectives aren't mutually exclusive. It's more like #UDL : we all benefit from including everyone but that doesn't mean the benefits that accrue for targeted groups aren't important to seek even if it only benefited them.
