Dems should introduce a #28thAmendment. I’m not a lawyer but something simple like:
—-
While in office the president shall be subject to the laws of the United States and afforded the same constitutional protections from prosecution as all other citizens.
The president may not pardon themself or anyone prosecuted for a crime committed at the president’s urging.
—
Need to put all pols on the record - do they support criminal presidents. @indivisibleteam does this make sense?
@markigra @indivisibleteam I could never (and still can't) figure out why no one with standing in the States talks about constitutional reform - like repealing the 2nd Amendment. Even if it's got no chance of getting up, have the conversation and shift the Overton window back.
It would be nice to have improvements be on the offensive instead of having to constantly and unsuccessfully try and fend off the increasingly worst.
@markigra @indivisibleteam @dimsumthinking
“President shall not interfere with prosecutions of indictments of that president which took place before taking office.”
(You want to use 'shall’ because ‘may’ is more of an optional thing.)
@markigra
A convicted felon shouldn't be allowed to be president, either.
@indivisibleteam @mmalc
@markigra @indivisibleteam sadly until the constitution is seen as a rock that can't be moved because it's soo unique and perfect, the system will keep having built-in flaws that will be used to degenerate even more the health of the US democratic system, until it become too sick to function properly. When it's not already the case.
A second trump mandate will cement the decay even more and corrupt other institutions.
